The new school year has brought with it new staff. One of these members is a new counselor, Mr. Abell. When asked about his opinions on the school, Mr. Abell states, “Walton-Verona has treated me really well so far. I’ve enjoyed getting to know the students, the staff, and the community. Usually, the transition into a new role can be a daunting task. However, everyone here has supported me while I learn my new role”. Mr. Abell is passionate about his position, and he mentions he wants to connect with students, families, staff, and local organizations to “promote our student’s well-being, academic success, and personal success as our students grow up and become productive members of our community”. He notes that as a councillor it is his responsibility to advocate for students, and he wants students to feel cared for because he believes this will lead to immediate positive changes in the community. Finally, Mr. Abell wants everyone to know that he cares for them, and he wants students to know they can come to him for anything. Whether that student wants to talk about how amazing their day is or if they are having a rough one and need some encouragement, he wants them to know he is there for them. The last thing he said was if any student needed help finding out what college or career pathway they will pursue, he can assist with too as he was in the same position and the end of his high school career.
