November 24-26, students attended the annual Y-Club trip for KYA. Students gathered in Louisville from throughout Kentucky to engage in the legislative process and develop leadership skills. Each year, students participate in a mock government session, taking on roles as legislators to debate and pass bills, run campaigns, and discuss critical issues facing the state. KYA encourages youth to actively participate in democracy, promoting civic responsibility, public speaking, and teamwork. This year, Secretary of State Ben Walton led KYA through civic meetings and silent discos.
For our bill, Emma Wolfe and Sawyer Riddell were the bill sponsors, and our bill passed both House and Senate. Tristan Clifton, who ran for Presiding Officer, won the primary election and impacted many with his beliefs. KYA was an impactful experience for students throughout Kentucky, and with the leadership of Mrs. Mayer, the trip was a great learning experience.
