Students wait anxiously for the play to begin
The recent winter chill set the perfect tone for the English department’s field trip to watch Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Once students arrived at the Playhouse in the Park in Cincinnati, they rushed out of the cold and into the cheerily decorated theater. Soon, the curtain was pulled back and the play began. The frame of the stage seemed to serve as a peek into the past as stone buildings and old-fashioned outfits took the viewer to the time of Mr. Scrooge. Many of the students knew the old grumpy man from the movies of the story, but Andrew May was able to bring the character alive before their eyes. The other characters were enjoyable as well. Bob Crachit, for instance, made the audience laugh from the first scene to the last. After the show, students got the chance to speak with some of the actors in a Q&A format which the actors were happy to speak at. Overall, the play presented an enriching experience and insightful look into the profession of theatre with an emphasis on Christmas cheer!
