Valentine’s Day, the perfect day to show your love through grand gestures or a cozy night in. Deciding what to do with your Valentine can be tricky but with a pinch of preparation and a dash of love, your Valentine’s Day can become a chance to create a day full of memories to last for years to come. One of those memories, for many couples, is food. Whether it is fine dining or a restaurant like Raising Canes, the expression of love can look different for each couple in love. Delicious meals and gifts galore fill many of the material things of today’s holiday, but the conversations while eating and gift giving is what makes the holiday so special. For instance, Emma Wolfe and Ben Walton plan on shopping for prom and spring break.
A number of couples prefer to share quality time with one another over a movie night. Others, like Mrs. Afterkirk and Mrs. Raniero are doing, “absolutely nothing.” Mrs. Sampson defends the lack of plans, “I feel terrible I don’t have a good story for you. I just know everyday he makes me feel special and I’ll take each of those moments rather than a holiday once a year, per say. So, I’d say make someone feel special in some way everyday than just on a commercialized holiday where things are overpriced and overrated.” After interviewing several staff members, it is easy to see that over time, Valentine’s Day becomes another day on the calendar. Although overlooking the day seems upsetting at first, many couples try to let every day be as special as Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day, however, is not just for couples. Many people choose to take the opportunity the day offers to shower their loved ones with special attention like Annabelle Anderkin who brought her mother a Valentine’s Day balloon. Some people, like Emily Johnson, see it as an excuse to revel in the chocolaty goodness the holiday brings: “I am going to sit at home and eat chocolate and watch a rom-com.” Whatever the day may bring, whether it be binging a classic rom-com or going out for dinner, you cannot go wrong with choosing to spend valuable moments with the people you love.
