The Monday after spring break was not like other Mondays for the seniors. Instead of dreading the long week after vacation, twelfth graders were hit with a material landmark signaling the end of high school: receiving their cap and gown. During flex, Bearcats stood in line to take the gowns they were measured for earlier in the year. Soon after their turn in line was over, some students decided to try their graduation outfits on immediately. Looking around the gym, it was as if a sample of graduation was coming to life. When asked about her feelings on graduation, Ava Fuller remarked, “I’ve gone to Walton-Verona since third grade. I’ve watched so many people graduate and now it’s my turn.”
The graduate’s will be able to show off their caps and gowns come next Friday during the Senior Walk. April 25th, the same day as Prom, is when seniors will be able to walk the halls of their former classes. Different from every year, however, seniors will also visit the intermediate school. Whether or not a student has been at Walton for 13 years or 1, it is nearly impossible to leave without connecting with a teacher or staff member. The piles of senior letters in the front office are evidence enough of the impact WVHS makes on their students. Friday’s celebratory day will be one of great emotion ending with a memorable night. Before dressing up for the dance, students will have worn their caps and gowns for the second time. The next chance seniors will get to wear their blue gowns is at graduation.
