This past Wednesday, students, parents, and faculty members celebrated the success of Walton-Verona seniors. A plethora of awards and scholarships were given out, with a whopping total of $1,505,400 in scholarships. 65 seniors attended the awards ceremony, and were recognized with awards spanning a variety of disciplines, including academics, athletics, arts, and community service. Moreover, numerous scholarships, funded by alumni, educational institutions, and local organizations, will provide a great support for seniors and their upcoming endeavors. Each award highlighted the dedication and hard work of students who have made a lasting impact during their high school journey. Scholarships and awards reflect the talents of Walton-Verona High School seniors.
Starting off the ceremony, students took their designated spots with their loved ones to find delicious home-made cookies sitting on their chairs. Once students sat down, peers talked to one another about their great achievements and spent the time reminiscing about their hardships to get to the point they are at today. Once the ceremony began, Mr. Nash introduced administrators and began on the teacher awards. Starting off with Mrs. Sampson, she presented her awards with honor and set the stage for other teachers presenting their awards. After the department awards, colleges presented their scholarships to students. Many colleges attended, including: NKU, EKU, Morehead, and Thomas More. After the college scholarships, independently-sponsored scholarships were presented.
A variety of independent scholarships were passed out, but one scholarship left the room in awe. Senior Luke Hyden received the Marc Sandlin Memorial scholarship. After Mr. Dennis Emerson gave a heartfelt speech, he then dropped some surprising information in which Luke’s scholarship which was originally 3,500 dollars got bumped up to 8,000 dollars. Luke’s face was priceless, and his scholarship check was pricey.
The recipients of the awards and scholarships were met with a resounding round of applause, which only served to intensify the sentiment of graduation. Congrats seniors!
