After finishing a year in this class, it was not what I was expecting going into it. At first, I had no real idea of what to expect because I had never done anything journalism related before. I was assigned the role of sports editor, which was good for me because I greatly enjoy sports and had lots of connections with athletes around the school. With that being said, I was not well acquainted with every athlete or even members from every team, which forced me to go out of my comfort zone and talk to people I wouldn’t normally talk to in order to get information for whatever article I was working on that week. As an athlete myself, I enjoyed brining publicity to every team here at Walton Verona. I also enjoyed lots of the conversations I had with my classmates about sports, and the feeling of giving light to their interests.
I believe the Newspaper class has taught me a lot about communication and networking. These skills are important ones to develop, especially as I go into adulthood and need to make new friends and acquaintances in my field of work. As for the future of the Paw Press, I hope it continues to grow and sees a bigger role in the Walton Verona community. I hope that anyone who inherits the role of sports editor not only enjoys sports as much as I do, but also enjoys the involvement within our athletics community the role brings. I am grateful that I got to be a member of the first Paw Press class, and found a role that fit my interests, and hope that everyone going forward gets as much enjoyment out of it as I did.
