Labor Day – What is all the fuss about? For many, knowledge concerning Labor Day evolves around one thing – No work, no school. In fact, when asking most students about said holiday, the response is the same, “Is it Memorial Day or Labor Day?” In reviewing Labor Day’s history, one will learn the holiday began as far back as 1885 in New York to honor and celebrate social and economic achievements within the United States (Source: U.S. Dept. of Labor). It wasn’t a national holiday until 1894, when President Cleveland signed it into law.
So, when you’re sitting at home on Monday, September 1st, take a minute to do as our predecessors when the holiday began, and recall people who labored and are still laboring to make our national strong and prosperous.
