KUNA, standing for Kentucky United Nations Assembly, encourages students throughout the state to engage in global diplomacy and create resolutions for their chosen country. Y-Club represented Bosnia and Herzegovina this past weekend, which is where Ema Dizdarevic is from. Participants take on the roles of ambassadors, representing different countries and tackling global issues through debate, negotiation, and collaboration. Ben Walton, who served as a Vice President in our Committees, lead ambassador meetings and let his gavel do the talking.
Each country needed a sign and trifold to represent their country. Walton-Verona students worked tirelessly to create an appealing sign to the ambassadors and judges alike. The Mostar Bridge, an iconic symbol of Bosnia and Herzegovina, lit up the stage (literally) with the creative detail and 3-D build. After going through bills, students voted for the best bills. Jackson M., Emma W., and Aubrey M accurately represented Bosnia’s bill on women’s equality and got the bill passed in the legislation.
After a long debate session, Mrs. Mayer celebrated her students’ hard work with Crumbl Cookies on Pi Day. Students gathered in her room to talk about their experiences on the trip and eat delicious cookies. KUNA is a great learning experience and a safe-space for students to learn and make new friends. During KUNA, students built great bonds that will last forever.
