At games, pep rallies, and school events, one familiar figure almost always appears: Lucky, the mascot of Walton-Verona Independent Schools. A constant presence in school events has made Lucky a recognizable symbol of the school community. But one question continues to circulate through the halls: Who is actually behind the mask? After some investigation by the Paw Press team, we found out that the current Lucky costume was purchased from a company called Mascot Makers in Windsor, England, showing that our Bearcat spirit has connections far beyond Kentucky. Many students don’t know the history around Lucky, But Lucky has actually been around for a while. In fact, Lucky went into “Hibernation” in 2014 and didn’t return until 2023, where he came back with a stylish, updated look. While exact measurements aren’t that clear, Lucky and his manufactured costume stand around 5 feet 9 inches tall. Even though the story of Lucky is becoming clear, one mystery still remains: Who is the person(or persons?) inside the costume bringing the Bearcat to life?
