Wake-Up Walton is an annual service initiative for the senior citizens in our Walton-Verona community. For the last 17 years, 200+ volunteers gather one May morning to offer free landscaping services to our elderly citizens. Because our seniors are the backbone and foundation of this community, we are blessed to be able to organize this event and give back to them in every way possible. I have been honored to serve on the planning committee for the event, headed by Jackie Alford, for the last four years, where we work to advertise the event, contact senior citizens, negotiate with business sponsors, register volunteers, and organize teams. I can assure you that the work behind the scenes is plenty, but I can also assure you that the work is well worth it. None of what we do would be possible without the generosity of our business sponsors, support of our volunteers, and, most importantly, the dedication of Mrs. Alford. I leave this event behind with gratitude for my involvement and the confidence that its impact will only continue to grow.
