On March 18 the Walton-Verona High School Choir earned a Distinguished rating at KMEA Choral Large Group Assessment. Along with many other schools in our region, our Bearcat Choir performed a trio of prepared songs for a panel of judges. The event also requires the participating groups to perform a song that they have never seen before. So, after the prepared performance, the group was lead to a separate room where the students were judged on their ability to accurately sing a new piece of music on sight. This was the first time WVHS has participated in Choral Large Group Assessment in over 25 years. The students worked very hard in rehearsal and also dedicated lots of individual practice time to prepare their music and to practice their sight-reading skills. The students performed very well under pressure earned a Distinguished rating. In addition to the judges’ rating, the Mrs. Core-Stine also receives the judges’ comments so that she and the Choir students can use the feedback to hone their skills and prepare for an even better performance next year.
