It is a controversy that has perplexed partakers of the great Thanksgiving feast for decades? Sides or turkey? Staff from across the halls of Walton-Verona High have answered this question with great passion, in some cases.
Mrs. Read – is all about the sweet potato casserole
“Sweet potatoes with brown sugar topping. My family has been making this dish since I was a little girl! It’s so good! We’ve tried other recipes; but the one we make, always beats the others!” Does it, now?
Mrs. Krafft – all sides, no turkey
“I love ALL the sides! I’m a vegetarian, so I don’t eat the turkey and I make a meal out of sides!” Sides are up for a win.
Mrs. Core-Stine – the great trio of Thanksgiving
“Glorious, buttery mashed potatoes. They are so delicious and complete the required stuffing-gravy-mashed potato trio.” Turkey, you’ve got no votes thus far.
Ms. Gayheart – all sides, all day long
In hallway conversation, Ms. Gayheart agreed with Mrs. Sampson, “It is all about the sides.”
Mrs. Sampson – potato, potato, potato
“Any side that includes potatoes – sweet potato casserole with pecan brown sugar topping AND whipped, sour cream and butter mashed potatoes.”
So, it appears, sides for the win! Turkeys can live another day…until Thanksgiving. The tradition will live on in most homes with the turkey on the table, but as for all of us (listed above), you’ll find our plates filled with side dishes rather than a slab of turkey meat!
